A selection of caps from the World Baseball Classic teams

  • There are no clear details yet, but it sounds like Konami will be releasing some kind of Powerful Pro Yakyuu title in English in the near future. Here is Konami’s press release about the game. And here’s the money quote:

“WBSC (World Baseball Softball Confederation) and KONAMI are planning to release new title “WBSC eBASEBALL PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU” (tentative), with the ability to switch the display language between Japanese and English.”

It sounds like this is probably too early in development to release alongside the WBSC’s biggest tournament, the World Baseball Classic, whose finals are happening next March. No real details on the game at all yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a smaller or even free-to-play Power Pros game themed around international baseball. It may have a focus on online multiplayer like Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Championship 2017.

Konami worked with the WBSC previously for an Olympics-affiliated esports event that was played on eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2020.
  • Some baseball games I’ve purchased over the last week or two: Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2010, 2011, and 2012 (I already had 2011 Ketteiban). Pure-Stat Baseball for Commodore 64. And Mario Superstar Baseball for Nintendo Gamecube, which seems to be as popular and nearly as expensive as it’s ever been right now. Cost me $50 to get a copy.
  • 2022 Little League World Series Baseball is out now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Switch. I’ll grab a copy and record video soon.
