Namco NeGcon controller

Friday Starter (6/10/22)

  • I bought a NeGcon controller this week, something I’ve wanted to get my hands on for a while. It’s a PS1 controller created by Namco. The main difference from a normal PS1 controller is a big pivot in the middle of the controller that lets you twist the left and right halves for analog control. I think it’s primarily meant for racing games like Ridge Racer, but they also really want you to play World Stadium with it. Every guidebook and ad seems to involve this controller, so I’m curious to see how it will work.

I’ll set up some way to record myself playing World Stadium with a camera on the controller to show how it works in the near future.
  • New games in my personal collection this week (mostly thanks to a nice shopping day at Video Game Cavern near Greenville, South Carolina), in no particular order:
    MLB 2001 (PS1),
    Sports Talk Baseball (Genesis),
    Triple Play 96 (Genesis),
    Major League Baseball 2K8 (Wii),
    Major League Baseball 2K10 (PSP),
MLB 09 The Show (PS2 version of what was primarily a PS3 game),
    ESPN Baseball Tonight (SNES),
Little League World Series Baseball 2009 (DS),
and Bases Loaded II: Second Season (NES).
  • On YouTube this week: Gameplay from the last-gen PS2 version of MLB 09 The Show, MLB 2001 and MLB 2005, gameplay for Super Famista 5 on the Super Famicom, and the credits from World Stadium 3.
