Hopefully this was a slow news week for baseball video games. Because it’s a holiday, so I’ve prewritten this evergreen content to go live the day after Thanksgiving. If a new Backyard Baseball comes out, or if Konami announces MLB Pro Spirit 2025 for PS5… I guess I’ll talk about it next week.
But this week, I’m here to declare the top four funny YouTube videos on the topic of baseball and video games.
If you’re interested, I previously covered the Mount Rushmore of baseball video game characters.
Let’s go ahead and start chiseling away at this Mount Rushmore:
’98 Koushien and the magic of an animation editor
If you’ve only ever seen one video of a baseball video game, this may be it. And for it to be from ’98 Koushien, a relatively small high school baseball game not released in the west… You know it must be special.
This video originally came from Niconico, but the original upload has been deleted. Here’s a (still very popular) reupload. There are some similar other videos on Niconico if you go looking too.
MLB 2K9: This is Why You Suck
A whole blooper reel packed into one short clip, from Major League Baseball 2K9. And a great look at the camcorder-pointed-at-my-screen era of YouTube.
Real-Life QTE Fails
Bending the rules maybe a bit to include this great one, which blends a real-life baseball clip with video game quick-time events.
A terror from early dev on MLB The Show 17
This won’t be for everyone… Sensitive readers, avert your eyes. This set of glitches from early dev on The Show 17 made for a famous video, and may haunt your subconscious for the rest of time.
Honorable Mentions
More famous for me as a tweet than a video, though ProZD is great.
Or this Mario & Luigi alternate version. More famous for me as a gif than a video, but the audio definitely adds something.
“2K9 sucks” videos are a genre among themselves, and a great time capsule.
Mine is definitely not the original, but it was the first one that came up in my search, so don’t mind if I do… Anyway, the Moero!! Pro Yakyuu bunt home run makes for a great clip, though it’s more a famous glitch than a famous video, I think.
