New Avenues in Pawapuro Merch
The Pawapuro 30th anniversary continues strong with some more merch opportunities coming next week, with Japanese sportswear-meets-street fashion brand Keboz. The announcement came along with this cute PS1-ish promo video:
Some photos in the announcement showed off the merch that’s available:
Sorry, the full Pawapuro-kun mascot outfit isn’t for sale. But the cushion with his face on it is.
Keboz is also a brand that will sell you $60 Lars Nootbaar T-shirts, to give a sense of the likely price of these Pawapuro items.
It’s not the cheapest thing in the world to import semi-fancy clothes from Japan. But I might have to get the chubby Pawapuro-kun hoodie.
Mercari Listing of the Month
Congrats to this Mercari listing for winning the big prize this month:
I am very tempted to bring my ~extremely rare~ copy of MLB 2K11 for Nintendo Wii to the beach and recreate this very real and cool photo.
Somehow it’s meaningful that I’ve done three posts making fun of Mercari listings on this site, and two of them have been copies of Major League Baseball 2K11 for Wii. Seriously, here’s the other one.
Snake Sneaks In
Courtesy of Olympic athlete KangGang, here’s a clip of Snake from Metal Gear Solid, who’s recently been added to the Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu mobile game.
Also a ton of Bombermen. It’s part of a recent event adding characters from other Konami games as gacha prizes.
YouTube Viewing Guide
- Bases Loaded 3 (NES) Gameplay. I’m not generally a big Bases Loaded guy, but this one seemed to play quicker than 1 and 2, and the color palette is really nice. In my head these were always pretty but stiff and slow games, but I had fun with this one.
- ESPN Baseball Tonight (PC) CPU vs. CPU Gameplay. Boy YouTube loved this one. Getting a ton of views. I couldn’t help but leave in the whole intro sequence here, which is really fantastic, and the commentary in game is pretty good too.
- Baseball’s Greatest Hits (PC) Gameplay. Part of what in retrospect was a weirdly popular genre: multimedia discs with a bunch of baseball history/encyclopedia stuff you can click around in. Multimedia CD software was a big thing, and the Ken Burns Baseball show was a big thing, so the timing made sense back then.
