MLB The Show 20 is the first game in the Sony-published series to include the names and likenesses of real minor league players. In previous games, although real minor league teams were licensed and even available for play in Exhibition mode or Road to the Show, the only players on those teams with real names were those on MLB 40-man rosters.

Roster
MLB The Show 20 contains full 40-man, AA, and AAA rosters for each major league franchise. The game’s final roster update was released on October 30th, 2020.
Series Firsts
- MLB The Show 20 is the first game in the series to include licensed minor league rosters for AA and AAA affiliates of major league teams. Modes like Diamond Dynasty, Road to the Show, Franchise, and March to October include the names and likenesses of real-life minor league prospects for the first time.
- Several genuine stadium advertisements are added in this edition of the game. For example, the giant Coca-Cola bottle past the left field wall in San Francisco is now officially licensed, as is the Chick-Fil-A cow in Atlanta and the Chevrolet Fountain in Detroit. In previous games, virtually all stadium advertisements were fake or replaced with ads for The Show‘s business partners like MLB and Topps.
- A new Showdown mode is added to Diamond Dynasty, a single-player mode centered around drafting players and ability boosts while running through a gauntlet of Moments-style short gameplay situations.
