Description

WBSC eBaseball Power Pros is a stripped-down, online competition-focused baseball video game with a cartoon graphical style. Single-player modes are limited to single Versus match-ups or a small custom offline tournament/league mode. The primary mode is Championship, an evolving set of online tournaments with special team set-up rules, limited to three-inning games by default. Online competition is world-wide, though there is no cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and Switch versions.

Users create custom teams using the game’s roster of fictional players. These fictional players have different skill attributes, positive and negative special attributes, and a small handful have unique pitches not available to most of the roster.

This release is the first Pawapuro game released on consoles in North America since MLB Power Pros 2008. The game prompts you to choose Japanese or English language at start-up, though this only applies to in-game UI and menus. Voiceover, fan/umpire voice samples in-game, and commentary are all Japanese-only (the commentary track is disabled by default in sound options when choosing English).

This new Power Pros title proudly features a license from the World Baseball Softball Confederation, the organization that hosts the World Baseball Classic and other national team-based baseball competitions. Although this license doesn’t include any real player names, it does allow for all custom teams to be themed around national baseball teams. Players create their own version of U.S.A. Baseball, Samurai Japan, or Chinese Taipei, for example. There are 136 countries available in the game, though again, these are mostly just flags and names for custom teams. Even uniforms always start as a default red and white before being customized by the player.

Roster

There are no licensed, real-life players in the game, unlike the vast majority of games in the Pawapuro series. Players choose a roster for their custom teams from a long list of Success Mode (the single-player story mode) fictional characters from previous Pawapuro games. These characters vary in abilities so they each have a cost associated with them. Certain online tournaments will have different cost limits on rosters.

Each character and their attributes are tracked in the MLB Power Pros World wiki here.
