The 2023 edition of the premier console baseball game series of its era, MLB The Show 23 introduces a new mode dedicated to telling stories about Negro League greats.

Gameplay Video

(This video shows an early version of the new Citi Field model, whose scoreboard was far larger than intended. This was fixed in the game’s first patch.)

Roster

Full AA, AAA, and major league rosters for all 30 MLB franchises are included, updated on a regular interval as the season goes on. Thanks to the World Baseball Classic, certain non-MLB players are also included in the game’s Diamond Dynasty mode such as NPB stand-outs Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Munetaka Murakami.

Series Firsts

  • New Negro League Storylines mode, pairing bite-sized gameplay similar to the Moments mode with video content telling stories about great players from the Negro Leagues, presented by Bob Kendrick from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
  • New Captains mechanic in Diamond Dynasty. Certain Captain series cards improve the abilities of other cards on the same roster in Diamond Dynasty based on their traits.
  • Franchise mode updated with a more in-depth amateur scouting system with a “fog of war” mechanic making different teams have different ideas of the overall potential of potential draftees.
