eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2022 title screen for the 2023 roster update. A burning hot Power Pro-kun is at bat and staring out at the pitcher.

Friday Starter – Opening Day Overload

All the games came out

MLB The Show 23: Finally out for the poor $70-level customers like me.
Out of the Park Baseball 24 (remember that’s actually a sequel number in OOTP‘s case, not a reference to the year): Out now.
eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2022 roster update: It’s out.
WBSC eBaseball Power Pros – Global Olympic esports qualifiers are going on now.
Several iOS baseball games I don’t really cover here: Out now.

It’s Opening Week and so the baseball games are out. Baseball!

Article on Out of the Park Baseball‘s history on The Athletic

If you subscribe to The Athletic, certainly check out this article going a little into the history of Out of the Park Baseball and its original lead developer Markus Heinsohn. Weirdly common in the history of baseball games, Markus is from Germany, not a baseball country, and it’s interesting to hear how he got into the sport and started a long-running game series.

Super Mega Baseball 4 rated in Taiwan

We’ve been covering the signs of an incoming Super Mega Baseball game for months now, and there’s still no official announcement. However:

So we have a name (Super Mega Baseball 4) and it’s covering pretty much the full range of current platforms (PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X).

The description may be copied from a previous game or otherwise not a real description of the new one, but it does cast some doubt on rumors that the next SMB would add an MLB license. “Fictional cartoon characters” and all.

Besides that, we patiently await a real announcement. The original EA Sports FY23 results call gave the game a Q4 release window. That should have meant it would come out between January 1st and… tomorrow. So we’ll see.

eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2022‘s roster update for 2023 out now

In the modern age, Konami’s baseball games have been designed to last for two years rather than having annual installments. This means the games get a free roster update at the start of the next season. The roster update for eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2022 came out on March 29th, adding new players and new ratings.

My favorite early highlight:

Aristides Aquino appropriately looks like a tooled-up monster with contact issues.

You can check out all the ratings for the ex-MLB players added in the 2023 update in my post here.
